The Way It Is

Alvondale

“That’s just the way it is.”

Those six words are used to form one of the most callous sentences in the English language. The sentence immobilizes action and squelches passions with poisoning drops from the bottle of indifference.

When someone says “that’s just the way it is” there is the implication that something “is not the way it should be.”

Challenge the naysayers by calling on them to provide an alternative to the way it is. Do not allow for the statement to be the end, but use it to prompt further dialogue and practice.

Turn the statement on its head and ask, “Then how should it be?”

Live challenging the way it is to bring about the way it should be.
